Its sequel Political Order and Political Decay (POPD) is less so. It is a very good book but in its overarching essential idea and originality of discussion it is not at the level of its predecessor.

The Origins of Political Order is the first part of Francis Fukuyama’s story of political history and theory. It covers political history and philosophy and I bought it on the basis that it would be something like an updated version of G.H. Sabine’s phenomenal, earlier work on political theory (A History of Political Theory). And though somewhat different from this book, I wasn’t at all.
